## Native Payment Processing
WooCommerce Payments, built by Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com), simplifies accepting credit cards in your store. No third-party payment plugin needed, no separate Stripe account required.
### Setup in 5 Steps
1. **Install WooCommerce Payments** from the plugin screen
2. **Connect your WordPress.com account** (the plugin uses this for Stripe integration behind the scenes)
3. **Complete business verification** — legal name, address, banking details, identity verification
4. **Configure payment methods** — credit cards are enabled by default; optionally add Apple Pay and Google Pay
5. **Set your payout schedule** — choose daily, weekly, or monthly payouts to your bank
The entire setup takes 10-15 minutes. Most of it is filling in business information for verification.
### Rates and Fees
- **Per transaction:** 2.9% + $0.30 CAD (standard credit card processing rates)
- **Monthly fee:** $0 (no subscription cost)
- **Setup fee:** $0
- **International cards:** +1% additional fee
- **Instant deposits:** available for an additional 1.5% (optional)
These rates are competitive with Stripe direct. You're not paying a premium for the convenience of native integration.
### Key Features
**In-dashboard management.** View transactions, issue refunds, and manage disputes directly from WooCommerce. No logging into a separate Stripe dashboard.
**Multi-currency support.** Accept payments in 130+ currencies. Customers see prices in their local currency.
**Built-in subscriptions.** Sell recurring products without an additional subscriptions plugin.
**Dispute management.** Handle chargebacks from within WooCommerce with guided evidence submission.
### Our Recommendation
For most WooCommerce stores, WooCommerce Payments should be your primary payment method. Add PayPal as a secondary option for customers who prefer it — about 20% of online shoppers prefer PayPal over credit cards.
If you sell in-person as well as online, consider Square instead — it offers unified online and POS payment processing.
